The GAA is in a mess
Incredible that any sporting body can stand over results like this and call it sport.
All these hammerings happened within hours of each other on the same day and people paid their
hard earned to watch these debacles..
The good people of Westmeath, New York and Tipperary must feel pretty awful this morning as they
try to stomach what the scribes describe in their Sunday papers.
Meanwhile the suits in Croke Park sit back and do SFA to stop these annual disgraceful events.
Westmeath hammered by 22 points ( Cats) hurling
New York hammered by 16 points ( Sligo) gaelic football
Tipperary hammered by 20 points (Kerry) gaelic football.

Re: The GAA is in a mess
You're always going to get hammerings in any competition. Even Cork have suffered their share in both hurling and football.
I suppose, to cut down the amount of them in the All-Irelands, the hurling championship should have an open seeded draw.
In the provincials, Leinster is pretty unbalanced, even with Galway in the fold; likewise football in Munster, but what can you do? Any solutions of your own, Ranty?

Re: The GAA is in a mess
Three hammerings in the one day isn't quite 'always' or is it.
Yes I do have the solution but it's not my job.
Croke Park is full of highly intelligent people who get well paid to
organise the GAA 'sport'
I wouldn't call this stuff sport, would you?

Re: The GAA is in a mess
Until you get rid of the provincial councils to be administrative body only as opposed to competition bodies you are at nothing. The Leinster council for example has presided over the utter decline of football for 30 pieces of silver

Whatever about the ridiculousness of still insisting on Provincial championship rather than open draws and whatever about county teams getting humiliated with hammerings on a regular basis, having seen the culture developing in the senior hurling inter County scene of strength and conditioning only going bigger and bigger and seeing some of those disgusting "tackles" by Limerick today, I don't know if I want my kids playing a sport like that when they are older. Similar to Rugby.
Hurlers like JBM would never exist in today's world

It's almost a farce.

And Billy Sheehan over them. He was with Cork, coach was he? .
Just shows ya how inept the Peadar Healy set up was. How that man gets any work is a mystery

I suppose there's little chance that Larry or Jarlath read these forums?
I think Tracy was a regular contributor in the old Rebelgaa, and who knows, she might be here also?

Slightly related but this article focuses on the Northside of the City. Jesus, it makes for grim reading. The County Board absolutely need to get GDAs into the city, what are we waiting for?

The Glen topped the league's second division this year and got promoted. Maybe they took their eye off the ball, but they had plenty of chances to rectify things and didn't manage it.
I'd like to say that the Glen will be back up to premier next year, but 1A is a mighty tough group. However I think they will be back up soon enough.
At the end of the day, it's up to the clubs, themselves.

Interesting results of a study here -
A significant increase in hand-passing, uncontested kick-outs, backward passes and a definite decrease in turnovers and contests for possession are the key trends that a new study into Gaelic football has found.
