Cork senior football team 2022
Time for a new thread as 2021 is long gone and Tyrone once again but a stop to "that crowd" as Kerry are affectionately known.
No team announcement yet for our joust with "that crowd" on Saturday in Killarney.
But there is a small bit of interest in our fantastic web site. Needles to say they don't tell us what time of day this earth shattering
announcement will be made.

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
I don’t believe in free shots or anything like that in sport and for that reason this is a really difficult game for cork. Kerry are not messing around and seem to only be picking regular players and going hard from the offset, I wonder will this work for the remainder of the season?
Cork have rightly and because they have to experimented with a lot of players who are new to this level and in a lot of
Cases either off the pace or need some more time to get ready, the last thing we need is another beating here, so I would expect a few more regular players to be involved. A good performance making Kerry work hard for it would allow some confidence for a tough and critically important match vs Roscommon in the Hyde the following Sunday

I don't know a lot about Cork footballers these days, but surely someone with the speed of Sean Powter is wasted in the full back line? On the other hand, his reactions are fast, as well, so that might be the thinking behind it.

I'd imagine that he's the "back coming out". Haven't seen Kerry play this year but they usually play with only two inside so Powter might pick up the third man and try to run him up the park.

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
Team vs Kerry
Mícheál Martin (Nemo Rangers);
Sean Powter (Douglas), Kieran Histon (Nemo Rangers), Tadhg Corkery (Cill na Martra);
Rory Maguire (Castlehaven), John Cooper (Eire Óg), Matthew Taylor (Mallow);
Cian Kiely (Ballincollig), Joe Grimes (Clonakilty);
Kevin O’Donovan (Nemo Rangers), Blake Murphy (St Vincent’s), Colm O’Callaghan (Éire Óg);
Mark Cronin (Nemo Rangers), Brian Hurley (Castlehaven), Chris Óg Jones (Iveleary).
Subs: Christopher Kelly (Éire Óg), Paudie Allen (Newmarket), Kevin Flahive (Douglas), Paul Ring (Aghabullogue), Shane Merrit (Mallow), Daniel O’Connell (Kanturk), David Buckley (Newcestown), Luke Connolly (Nemo Rangers), Damien Gore (Kilmacabea), Daniel Dineen (Cill na Martra), Kevin Crowley (Millstreet).
Probably a parting present for Ml.Martin as I doubt if he will be our No 1 after this.
If Histon can put the shackles on Paul Geaney his name could be on that shirt for later even if O Mahony returns. We need Meehan at NO 6. If Histon is in trouble they might move Cooper back to No 3 which was his club position recently.
With Flahive, Ring and Crowley in the subs we have plenty cover.
We need somebody with speed to keep Paudie Clifford from running the show so it might be Powter coming out a bit further as Clifford is a speedy boyo who will do wreck if allowed space.
Midfield worries me as I don't think Grimes is quick enough nor Kiely tall enough. Hope like hell I'm wrong but I'd like to see the Liberator Daniel O Connell starting there or even Merritt.
I see fellows on the other site complaining about Kevin O Donovan being a back playing as a forward but I dont agree as he's a very versatile footballer. I like our half forward line and they will give Murphy, Morley and White plenty to think about. I think K.O.D. will keep an eye on White and he has the speed to stop the Crokes man from sallying forward.
Am really looking forward to the senior debut of Chris Og Jones but if he doesn't measure up Dineen and Gore are waiting in the wings.
This has the makings of a good football game as Kerry have a strong team out and will want to hammer Cork again.
I don't think they will, but I'd expect a Kerry win by 4 or 5 points with Cork learning a lot from the experience and giving game time to future senior footballers.

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
David Clifford is probably the only big gun missing from that Kerry squad.
Hard to know what Jack O Connor is about. Then again the natives are restless
and silverware is kinda scarce in the hills these days.
Gone are the days when they were tops and all the rest looked up to them.
They are now leaving no stone unturned to get back on top.
A centre of excellence at Currans, mid-way between Tralee and Killarney.
Every player on special diets of 'godsknowswhat' delivered to the centre after training by a top Tralee restaurant.
Top medical people employed, psychologists and dietitians and every other kind of a guru that money can buy is on call at the click of a finger.
Think I'm making this up?
Think again, as I probably left out a few 'icians'
They are of course only copying the Dubs who proved that this was the way to win consistently.
What chance have we against this kind of modern technology and science?

Some of the newer players are way off the pace, physically and pace wise just not at the races, to be expected To an extent but Christ we do not need another beating here

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
There are positives.
Ml.Martin will not play again
Powter injury free and excellent as usual.
Tadg Corkery is good enough for a place in defence.
Of the newcomers Maguire is a good one and David Buckley also.
Cian Kiely is a good footballer but unfair to play him out of position at mid field.
I was disappointed with Blake Murphy at No 11 as I thought he was a good prospect.
Now I have serious doubts, as his handling and passing were not up to this level.
Chris Og will probably get a few more chances as he came a bad second to Dan O Donoghue today.
If I see Connolly in a red jersey again I will pull out the last remaining hairs on my balding head. Holy smoke, he is simply incapable of doing anything resembling normality despite having the size and skills to be a good player.
Dan Dineen will make it and his point at the end was something to watch.
2-17 to 0-11 was an awful trouncing and if I had my €10 back I'd keep it.
Like I said in an earlier post before the game, Kerry and a few of the other top teams are on a different planet to our lads. They all have batteries of experts in all fields of performance and I doubt very much that CCB and our five year plan will ever reach them levels.
Based on what I saw today, I think holding our place in Division 2 will stretch us to our limits and if we were relegated to competing in the Tailteann Cup it might not be such a bad thing.

I think we are stuck badly for midfield without maguire, very worrying going to Roscommon next weekend, Chris Kelly simply has to start in goals as his kick outs are simply way better then martins. We are way off the pace physically and unfortunately that’s not a quick fix, interesting to see who makes the league squad

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
Didn't watch this as I was out and half expected we'd get a bit of a trimming, Kerry not messing around with giving new players a go for the sale of it and also being a lot better than Cork currently. Did Cian Kiely play as an orthodox midfielder with kick outs being aimed at him? He's a serious engine but he can't be more than 6'0...
All hands to the pump for Roscommon now, I think the three teams that we should be aiming to beat in this league are Clare, Down and Offaly. That would almost certainly see us safe, but after those three I would rank Roscommon as the next most beatable team but our record against them since the 2014 under 21 semi final is horrible. Hopefully there'll be a couple more players available for it, has anyone any idea if Mark Collins is playing this year or not?

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
AFAIK Mark hasn't retired and I'd expect to see him playing some part v Roscommon.
We need his steady hand and clever head more than ever.
Also need the power of Brian Hartnett under restarts as the current pair are not strong enough against a big Roscommon mid field.
We will be a lot better next Sunday but don't expect miracles.

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
How old is this 'Five Year Plan' and this 'Corkiness sh one T' that made the headlines a while ago now. Must be at least two years old now?
We have a 'Project Co=ordinator, A high performance manager, A talent identification
manager, and a few lesser links in a chain of experts and it seems we are no closer to
being competitive at the top level.
I suspect we will be forever groping in the football dark if we continue operating both codes under the one umbrella.
History tells us that Cork is a predominantly hurling county and it's highly unlikely that we will compete with the top football counties unless we appoint a 'Football Board'.
I happen to believe that this would benefit both codes as it's obvious that they are both professional games now in the successful counties.

Re: Cork senior football team 2022
I think your being harsh Ranty, we have just won Munster championships at minor and u20 leve for the first time in a long time, we have 2 all Ireland winning teams who should be feeding into senior about now, we have 2 teams in corn ui mhuiri semi finals next week and our senior club champions in a senior all Ireland semi final. I think we have the right set up with the senior squad but they are playing catch up BIG TIME, in every single area notably conditioning and tactics…….remember our last management went to Killarney last year with a free taker who has a conversion rate of approximately 25% and a kick out ‘strategy’ that seemed to be hit it out long there lads……I wouldn’t write this year off yet but it will be very tough. Roscommon are decent but only that and they are missing the murtaghs, the dalys and a few more for next week, get a win there on the road and heads are up big time. We are also cleaning up a massive injury situation with really good young players like o’mahoney,o’donovan and shanley missing and possibly gore, never mind o’hanlon whose strength is badly needed at midfield.
A lot of damage has been done to cork football over the last 10 years- poor managers, poor treatment of players, bluffers brought in from outside the county bounds who offfered fuck all, total lack of tactical management, never mind playing fucking soldiers in youghal for the whole world to see!!!
