Cork Senior Hurling 2024 Empty Cork Senior Hurling 2024

Post by bittergaaman Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:17 pm

3 out of 4 games behind a pay wall. Going to have to buy an annual pass not only for myself but for my elderly father too.

Why do I bother giving up 3 hours a week volunteering for the GAA when they get this greedy and punish us more than most. I understand that it's a changing time and all that but 3 out of 4.... thats disgusting

Bollix to changing times and all that. The problems of the grass roots don't bother the rarefied echelons of the anointed at the top. The divide grows bigger year by year. Those buckos are delighted that there are supporters speaking up for them and saying “It’s grand because it’s grand for me.” Divide and conquer.

As Martin Niemoller put it, speaking of the Nazis -

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Latest score 2-17 to 0-16 for Cork, 25 left. Robbie Flynn and Jack O'Connor with the goals, both seem to be showing up well

Disappointing that the game was called off, but you couldn't see a football in the second game in Thurles today, so if it was as bad in Mallow there was little they could do. It was mad to hold it in Mallow in the first place, where it was as convenient for Limerick as it was for us. Down here (East Cork) the day was bright and sunny, so I presume it was also in the city.

I'm not picking the team, only reporting it. I know he's not going to be there when Joyce returns, but Pat Ryan must have some reason for it. Originally he played for Midleton in the half forward line. It was Ben O'Connor who decided to play him at center back. When Denis Ring managed the Cork Under 21s, he played him at midfield.

Just trying to open some debate. Tommy is a fine player but lacks size for defence
And yes your right, he was originally a forward under Denis Ring when we threw away an u20 AI v Tipp. He was our best player that day

I'm waiting for Alan Connolly to return myself. The few times I saw him play for Cork, I loved it. He's a very dogged player who never gives up on a ball, a nightmare, I would imagine for any back marking him. I saw him, without his hurley, refuse to let any of the two players on him, lift the ball to clear it. Hopefully he'll remain the same. With Robbie O'Flynn and Seamus Harnedy there, and Patrick Horgan lurking, we could have a dangerous forward line. The problem with midfield is there are too many candidates, which is further complicated by Cork's seeming preference for bringing one of the corner forwards out the field. I suppose the upside of that is that it gives someone like Darragh Fitzgibbon the chance and space to burst forward with the ball.

On the back line, it's great to have someone like Ciaran Joyce, at last - the answer to my dreams, at least! It's a great pity Kieran Kingston messed Mark Coleman about so much as I though he was perfect at number 7. He was much tougher in that position than people imagined, safe with the ball in hand, and he also popped up on occasions to rescue the full back line.

I though Sean O'Donoghue was prefect for corner back from the first time I saw him and Damien Cahalane does as well as anyone else at full back. I'd love to see others cement their positions in the coming year.

It's certainly time there was real competition for the goalkeeping position. Eventually you'd want consistency there, but it always struck me as crazy that the panel carried two goalkeepers from the same club.

I'm not Donal Og's biggest fan, but he certainly revolutionised goalkeeping and the goalkeeping drill. Perhaps they could use him as goalkeeping coach?

Reading the article above, the three substitutions before starting can't have helped the team, particularly since two of them were in the back line and Ciaran Joyce was played out of position. The most worrying thing to me in the amount of wides. 23 is just far too much.

Went to the game sunday, too early in the season to read into much plus clare had a weak enough team out.... forwards played well in the 1st half backs were poor could not win a clare puckout to save their lives in the 1st half, any ball that was broken around our half backline or midfield clare hoovered it up

2nd half backs were much better, daire o leary came on and offered a lot of aggression and workrate around the middle we have to see more of him involved this yr, downey dominated 2nd half and tommy o connell had a brilliant last 10mins when game was going against us.... this was negated by the fact that our forwards who were good in the first half were brutal in the 2nd... 22wides says it all

As regards personnell saunderson was good in goal he has to play instead of collins this yr, he gave away 1 bad point in first half batting out a ball he should've caught plus had 2 loose clearances in 2nd half which he needs to work on but still good first day out, he scored a long range free at the death too inside our own 45 when game was on the line, hopefully he can become a weapon there for us like byrnes is for limerick

Cotter was motm and deserved it, showed well for the ball won a pile scored 4 but couldve had 8 as hit some bad wides too... he has developed well physically too id have him well ahead of jack o conner at this stage who was poor and missed a bad goal

Hayes worked hard but was quiet, its 14 or nothing with him, he CANNOT play in the half forward line he's proven that time and time again, just because he's big doesn't mean he's a target there for puckouts... in fact ive rarely seen him catch puckouts for club and county, serious competition for that inside forward line now, you'd imagine hoggie and robbie are certs which means cotter power hayes jack o connor and connolly all vying for that one spot, at the monent id go with cotter but would love to see more of power

Apparently there's a trojan amount of physical running work being done at the mo so not sure what to make of their hurling after that match, the use of direct ball was very good, low and diagonal into space, would like to see us mix it more tho with the running game, we ain't running it enough to make oppositions think, if we keep playing as direct as we r without a plan B oppositions will just plonk a sweeper in  front on ff line like waterford did 2nd half in the pairc last yr.... and we're still losing the middle 8 battle hands down everytime we go out... if believe if we can even come close to breaking even around the middle 8 in games we'll win the all ireland if not then come close.... i'm not even saying win the middle 8 just come close to 50/50 we seem to be losing 70per cent of battles around the middle everytime we go out

Forgot to mention cathal macarthy sars played very well too... has tonnes of hurling and is very confidant on the ball, has decptive pace too and uses possession very well... he's one of those guys who always seems to be drawn to the ball, just reads the game well.... if he could add a bit of size he could do a barry nash job for us.... would still have o donoghue naill o leary mellerick and o callaghan ahead of him at this stage but still gives us another option in the corner which we seem to have loads of now
