Carbery only had 17 players togged out last night according to the team sheet, they had the best part of 30 for the first game against Avondhu. Anyone any idea where they all went? No club championship fixed yet, they surely can't all have had club league games?

Duhallow 0-22, Carrigdhoun 0-19 in what appears to have been a good game
Avondhu 3-18, Muskerry 0-19. Avondhu will face Duhallow next week for a spot in the semi-finals of the divisions and colleges section

Avondhu 1-28 Duhallow 0-22 AET. They now play a mini competition with UCC, MTU and Imokilly for a place in the quarter finals.

Douglas missing a few tonight, and whereas they showed good form in the league I think Midleton are a level above if they show up
Charleville and Barr’s will be interesting as Barr’s have a lot of young talent coming through but is it too soon for them ? Their footballers were flying in terms of fitness and work rate so if the hurlers bring that they should get over Charleville. Only seen Charleville once in the league without Darragh Fitz, but they look limited enough imo

Nervous about Midleton. They were pretty poor in the league. Of course the big difference was that they were without Conor Lehane for the league this year, but they shouldn't be depending on one player all the time.

Re: Premier Senior Hurling Championship
Newtown looked decent tonight, although the conditions might have had an influence on the result. Kanturk fumbled a lot more ball and looked fairly rudderless up front, very little decent high ball sent in even with the two Walsh's having a sizeable height advantage on the Newtown full back line. Tim O'Mahony superb at centre back both in the air and on the ground, excellent distribution, and stepped up with a couple of important long range frees after Newtown went down to 14. Cathal Naughton looked good on his return as well, two points before fading out of it and going off with cramp. Disappointed with Kanturk overall, four points was kind on them in the end - it was a derby and they didn't look as up for it as Newtown who worked very hard without the ball.

Jesus Ballincollig were woeful this evening. A town as big as Ballincollig should have a hurling team or a hurling culture much better than it has had over the last 20 years. Castlemartyr could easily have won by 20 to 25 points. The village had a consolation goal with the last puck of the game

Re: Premier Senior Hurling Championship
An unexpected set of results over weekend. I think the weather def upset the apple cart on Saturday, I was in Pairc Ui Rinn and mistakes being made, balls fumbled, mis-hits, from allsides. Lots of teams will be wondering how they left games behind them but none more so than Sars. The two inter co men O Connor and Connolly were very quiet, yet Connolly stood up when it mattered. Sars had their chances to win it too in extra time but seemed stunned by the late comeback - It makes the next round very interesting. Presumably Barr’s will have Cahalanes back ? And will raise their game against city rivals. I heard Darragh Fitz was brilliant in patches and couldn’t be held by Barr’s. Barr’s goals brought them back into the game twice but Charleville were dogged and physical. Barr’s are coming but I think it’s too soon for them yet
And you’d have to fancy Sars to bounce back from their defeat. What I couldn’t understand was why Myers didn’t take the penalty - I couldn’t believe that lad missed it, I even thought at first it deflected over for a point. To blaze it wide was incredible. Myers will surely get a look in withCork, esp given Pat Ryan in charge
Erins Own are an amazing team, they just never give up, they fully deserved their win over Glen - there was a young lad ORegan I think came on second half and worked his socks off - again oddly the conditions didn’t seem to suit the Glen and they are too dependent on Hoggy for scores. Brosnan, Moylan all starting to slow a bit and even Hickey in goal wasn’t his usual dependable self. You’d still fancy the Glen to recover as Na Piarsaigh & Bishopstown out of their depth in premier senior hurling.
Midleton was the biggest shock for me, they were very flat in patches, despite playing some lovely hurling at times. Luck deserted them on the night as Douglas ground them down, Mark O Connor took his goal well, he’s a player back from injury - but with Turnbull & Brian Hartnett out I thought they’d struggle. Alan Cadogan was very poor. Niall Hartnett ( a bit like swan for Sars) hasn’t a huge amount of hurling but is a brilliant target under a high ball, and did his job breaking the ball down twice for goals. Thought the 2 Kingstons were very good, you can’t argue with 1-12 for Shane Kingston.
Surprised to see Newtown turn over Kanturk esp with 14 men, and hard to believe Cathal Naughton back making the team. Uphill battle now for Kanturk to progress but maybe football is more their focus.
Be another great weekend of games next weekend and hopefully more balanced weather.

Re: Premier Senior Hurling Championship
Inniscarra were outstanding tonight. Their intensity was something I saw Castlemartyr replicate against Ballincollig. Begs the question, if the clubs are able to play with such desire and intensity levels, how has it not translated to the county team. Hopefully that will change.
But lads, head to Valley V Inniscarra. Its going to be a cracker I'd say based on what I've withnessed

Re: Premier Senior Hurling Championship
Another great weekend of games
Looks like Na Piarsaigh in danger of relegation, which would be a shame, they do great work promoting games on north side of the city, but really struggle to bring players through, and writing on the wall last while. I hope they manage to stay up.
Douglas and Erins Own, likely to be jostling for semi final spot, given Douglas the dual club it would most benefit them, and they look on target unless Kanturk recover to upset them. Reports of a hand injury for Alan Cadogan so the longer gap would also be of benefit them.
To be fair to Newtownshandrum , they stayed in that game a long time. Jamie Coughlan had some outrageous plays, from catches and scores. Still a talent. Tim not as influential as you’d hope but always plays on the edge, full of grit and passion for his club, but Midleton just had too much talent all over the pitch. Luke O Farrell seems to be having a good year, looked very dangerous yesterday. Beausang and Ross O Regan have yet to burst into like this year. I’m assuming they will dispose of Kanturk easily enough.
Rockies left the game behind them which is probably pay back for last weeks steal. A blistering opening before Barr’s woke up and Rockies fumbled and stumbled after that. A real brain fart form them, they won’t get anything easy from Charleville. the young lads from Barr’s came of age, and that game will really bring them on - Ben Cunnigham’s free taking wqs sublime. If they can keep those lads together ( although Ben O Connor is rumored to be nailed on for rugby) they will surely be serious contenders in a few years.
Fr O Neills notched up another big win, they look like form team in Senior A - Declan Dalton and Billy Dunne clocking up the scores.
Shame about camogie players both losing out. Late goal was a killer for seniors.

Re: Premier Senior Hurling Championship
For some reason I'm finding it impossible to buy the tickets for the matches online, although I did it all right for a few years before Covid struck. My bank now refuses to authenticate the transfer of my money to Universe. The last four digits of the mobile number to which they say they will send the Passcode are mine, but no dice - "an unexpected error occurred". I visited them today to try to find out what was going on, but they were too busy so I came away again. I don't think SuperValu and Centra provide club match tickets, but I think the County Board should look at this.

Heard at Douglas football game at weekend that Brian Turnbull & Brian Hartnett expected back shortly, a great boost for their chances - certainly for the hurling

Great result for Avondhu although UCC didn’t have their usual collection of Limerick Tipperary and Waterford stars
I wonder will Avondhu keep it pucked out to Imokilly !
