Dangerous play - a reckless pull by Conlan which could have caused a serious injury - a straight red.

Re: Cork Senior Hurling 2024
I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the game again or post about it since last Sunday. Jamesie’s article yesterday claiming the ref got the black card decision right was a pretty sad affair. Finished with the same plámás that has been coming from Clare all week about how gracious Pat Ryan was, making it clear that anyone else who says anything else is a bad loser.
Cork didn’t play as well as they could have and lost the game. That was largely down to holding off the ball by Clare backs when they realised Cork were getting away from them early. Cork’s failure to react to that by fair means or foul is an indictment of Cork. We are too naive and too soft still. To listen to Hogan boasting about how his underage coach told him that you win nothing by being nice is hard but maybe a few of our lads should listen to it.
I said before the match I thought we’d need to vary the long ball game more against Clare. Their half back line has been imperious and we were asking for trouble raining ball down on it. It took us too long to vary that. We also had a lack of mobility in midfield and it looked to me on the day as if Clare dragged our midfield closer to our own half back line for our puckouts which meant there was less chance of the half backs and midfield players getting onto breaking ball for the puckouts. Our midfield is a work in progress still.
On the defending for the goals, I think from his interview before the game it was clear ODonoghue (and presumably the Cork camp) were still focused on how his sending off probably cost us the game against Clare in Cork. I would not be surprised if a decision was taken that we would be better off conceding a goal than losing a man in a game where the referee had a reputation (noted by Brian Gavin in his pre match piece) for being fussy and blowing for everything. At least two of the Clare goals were ones where you’d expect an inter county defender to floor the guy before the move developed further. The pressure on the referee (from Gavin in his pre game piece and presumably elsewhere) to let the game flow meant what we got was a different referee to the one we had prepared for. Whatever the rights and wrongs, the fact that we didn’t adapt to that fast is our fault.
Next year is going to be tough. Away to Limerick and Clare in Munster. Tipp presumably in better shape and Waterford with a point to prove too. Chances like the one we had last Sunday don’t come round as often as they used to in Cork. I hope we can put it behind us and that it is more like 2003 than 2013.
Thanks to players and management for the effort and entertainment they gave us this year. It was a better year than most of us could have expected.

Re: Cork Senior Hurling 2024
A few thoughts nearly 2 weeks later
This will take a LONG time to get over.
We are TOO soft when it comes to defending. Mark Rogers an Tony Kelly should have been dragged down. Limerick would have done it in a heartbeat.
Pat Ryan has never lost a championship match by more than a puck of a ball. We arent ruthless enough and blow big leads, especially against Clare. We have no player like Tony Kelly who was left do as he pleased last Sunday week.
Too many forwards didnt perform.
We lost all the marginal calls ALL YEAR and in this final, things that could have swung the game our way. The Harnedy missed 65 call was one of the worst, Clare got a point from the puckout when it was level. Fuck sake
Remember the missed goal against Tipperary in the U20 final? Fuck sake
This might be controversial but we are no longer one of the big three. What results suggest we are? Winning All Ireland when Christy Ring and JBM were playing? Go away outta that. Our record is appauling since 2005 at all levels. Other counties have by passed us as we dither and twiddle our thumbs.
Cork GAA won a grand total of ZERO trophies this year when all is said and done.

Re: Cork Senior Hurling 2024
2 more years of having to deal with John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk. Great. And on the day Kyle Hayes gets a 2 year ban off the road for speeding on OUR roads ("I ran out of Road")
Niall Ó Ceallacháin of Na Fianna is the new Dublin hurling manager. All Dublin selectors. An inside job.

10 All Star nominations for Cork
Darragh Fitz in for hurler of the year and Eoin Downey young hurler of the year. Well deserved but neither will win
Without getting too upset about it, I'd question how in the world did Kyle Hayes get nominated for POY while you had a couple of Dublin, Antrim and the usual Lee Chin nominations on there. Purely cause of geographical location
Niall Leary very unlucky
Incidently, Daniel O'Mahony the only Cork footballer to get a nomination
