Re: Cork Minor Football
If it's any consolation ( It isn't) in 2019 when we won the All Ireland Kerry hammered us in Cork by 3-19 to 1-9. That's 17 effing points.
2-18 to 1-6 this year, that's only 15 effing points.
So there's life in the young dog yet? or is there.
That's the good news.
Now for the bad news.
I note that Hugh O Connor Newmarket, probably our most promising forward since Corbett, has been named at No 12 on the U 20 hurling team v Clare in Ennis tomorrow night.
I have no doubt he'll go with the stick men down the road if he has a choice.
No other county has our dual problem and it's an incurable problem. A high percentage of our talented footballers will opt for hurling and if the seniors beat Tipp this weekend that gate will open wider.

Hopefully the fact he chose the big ball at u20s might be a good omen added to the fact that like Fiji and Fermanagh, Newmarket isn't a hurling stronghold.

Caughtforpace - I'll have you know that Newmarket (until recent times) would have regarded themselves as Hurling first and Football second - Jerry Cronin was sub keeper for the 3 in row in the seventies

That 'was' news to me also 'till I was informed by a Duhallow man today that Newmarket had a good
junior hurling team from way back and football was the 2nd choice by many.

Outside Danny the yank and Mark O Sullivan the only other thing I knew about Newmarket was the HiLand on a Saturday night back in the day.

It's still going strong, I hear.
Ah the good old days. Checking the classified ads on d'examiner on Saturday morning to see whats on where. Clon, Bandon, Macroom, Midleton, Fermoy. Distance no object. No bed till 3 or 4 full of curry chips remembering that in a few hours you'd be trying to chase some 19 year old greyhound around the field in a junior league game.

Re: Cork Minor Football
Minor footballers v Mayo tomorrow Saturday in Ennis. Not many name changes AFAIK but the deck chairs are moved around a bit.
Hopefully they will improve from that hammering by Kerry in Tralee and win or lose go home with heads high.
Carbery Rangers’ Pádraig Tobin comes in for Mallow’s Ben O’Shea in the only change. Following the Cork minor hurlers exit from the championship two weeks ago, Liam Kelleher and Jack O'Brien, both from Douglas, are on the bench for Micheál 'Haulie' O’Sullivan’s charges this weekend.
I think there's a few hurlers in the 'extras' as well, so if they get over Mayo a few of these lads will be
up graded.
A few egg heads over yonder tearing strips off Haulie & Co. for calling up the hurlers but if we want to win the bloody thing he's right to pick the best available IMHO.
1 James O’Flaherty, Douglas
2 Oisin Harrington, Kilmeen.
3 Niall O’Shea, Urhan (Captain)
4 Joe Mouret, Douglas
5 Cian Cooney, Clyda Rovers
6 Aaron Keane, Kinsale
7 Cian O’Connor, Ballincollig
8 Pádraig Tobin, Carbery Rangers
9 Jack Trench, Ballinora.
10 Harry Cogan, Glanmire
11 Danny Miskella, Ballincollig
12 Cathal McCarthy, St. Colum’s
13 Humphrey Canty, Newcestown.
14 Dylan O’Neill, Carbery Rangers.
15 Sean Whelton, St James.
16 Denjoe O’Riordan, Kilshannig
17 Billy Ryan, Glenville.
18 Liam Kelleher, Douglas
19 Daniel Burke, St Finbarrs.
20 Jack O’Brien, Douglas.
21 Daniel Mellerick, Nemo Rangers.
22 Danny O’Donovan, Castlehaven.
23 Ben Delaney, Carrigaline.
24 Padraig McGrath, Douglas.
Extra Panel Members; Cian Ahern, Ballincollig, Scott Barrett, Donoughmore, Kevin Beechinor, Éire Óg, Ryan Crowley, Kilshannig, Dylan Harrington, Clonakilty, Jack Hegarty, Ballinora, Daniel Holland, Donoughmore, Euan Lehane, Dohenys, Aaron Murphy, Mallow, Luke Murphy, Barryroe, Sean Murphy, Éire Óg, Mark O’Brien, Douglas, Niall O’Callaghan, Castlehaven, James O’Driscoll, Bandon, Ben O’Shea, Mallow, Dara O’Sullivan, Nemo Rangers, Caolón Lordan, Ballincollig.

My God, this is embarrassing 2-8 to 0-3 at half time - I'm sorry for the young fellas, but this coaching team shouldn't be left near a tiddly winks teams, not to mind a football u6 team - What were this management doing for the past 2 years - Our young fellas are much better than that I would imagine - They're not able to even kick the f.ing ball - Sweet Divine

Re: Cork Minor Football
Mayo 3-14 Cork 0-6.
GAA Clubs in Mayo 57, GAA clubs in Cork 259.
We can blame the dual codes, college football and a multitude of other things, but today is a red letter day in Cork GAA.
Forget the five year plan, Project co-ordinator, High Performance manager, Junior Administrator, and if anybody can find the 'Talent Identification Manager' I'd like to have a word in his ear.
Graham Canty, Conor Counihan, Brian Cuthbert and Tracy Kennedy in 2019 were the creators of this five year plan. Huge publicity and fanfare, rise again, Corkness, and so much 'caca tarbh', that we thought we'd never again see a debacle like Ennis today.
Today was a first in my long life.
I couldn't watch the 2nd half on Youtube. The only bright spot in my day was the fact that I considered travelling to Ennis and decided against it at the last minute.
I feel sorry for those young lads who wore the red jersey today. I cannot blame them for being thrown to the wolves. They were out of their depth and this was obvious to us all after the 2nd Kerry game. There is something seriously wrong with the underage structures in Cork football and today's hammering might just trigger a switch in CCB and Kevin O Donovan to stop the rot.
The first move should be to sack this 'Talent Identification Manager' whoever he or she might be.

Kerry minors beaten by Derry by a point today in the AI semi final
We could do worse than send a delegation up to Derry to find out what in the world they have done in the past 3 years to totally transform their football teams at all levels.

Better still find out what they are 'taking'. How a 17yr old named Sargent can stroke 45s and
all long distance frees over the bar beats banagher. Birth certs need to be checked as Kerry tried
to do with Mickey Niblock all those years ago.
I don't know who they meet in the final but I'm having a whale of a bet on them if I can find a bookie
willing to take it.

Tipp I'll tell you what they are doing up there and everywhere except Cork.
They only select big strong strapping young lads and they hand pass the ball to each
other all day. OH, BTW..........it's unwatchable and I didn't

Keith Ricken confirmed as minor manager.
He gets 2 years, Fergal McCormack gets 1 year. Anyone know why?

McCormack doesn't have a clipboard. Couldn't give a chap two years
without one of them things.
Now I see he has a selector from that hotbed of gaelic football.......Carrigtwohill.
Is it any wonder we are the laughing stock of the football world.
Gimme a break.

Re: Cork Minor Football
Latest jingo from the clipboard...........if we can't at least hammer the sh one T out of Kerry with this number of "right fit" volunteers I'll put the Morris Minor on Done Deal.
"We have three coaches and we do need that. Every fella has their own strengths. I would have worked with all of them, be it at college level, club or whatever. They are all good individuals. The players will need a number of different voices, but yet there will be a consistency in our approach. Every member of the management will bring something different to it.
“We have a number of people then in the backroom team. Conor Weir is from Naomh Abán and he will do the video analysis side of things. We then have two people involved in analysis in Eoin Ryan from Clonakilty and Ballincollig’s John Noonan. We have a team administrator who is Daniel Spillane from Glanmire.
"We have super people then that will be involved in logistics, John Finn O’Callaghan from Iveleary and John Hourihan from Éire Óg. Our two strength and conditioning coaches will be Dylan Byrne who is a St Finbarr’s man and Jason Browne from the Shamrocks club. Finally, our physio will be Darren O’Donovan from Adrigole.
“All of the management and backroom team are the right fit for this group of players. None of these guys will have an ego and are grounded and are player-centred. That has to be the case at minor level.”

To be fair, Ricken has the pedigree and has done it before. I think it's a good appointment tbh

I don't share your optimism unfortunately. I heard from one of the players in 2019 that it was
O Crónín and others that organised that victory. Ricken has another dose of 'Caca Tarbh' on tonight's
Echo and it's painful stuff.
