Get the feeling the ref is "taking pity" on Kerry and giving them some dubious frees to "make a game" of it...

A great win for Cork.
Extra game with Tipp helped a lot!
Cork selectors have done a very good job.

Great to do a Kerry on Kerry. Well done to everyone involved. Enjoy the win. But they are just kids and just as we shouldn’t get carried away with a big loss we need to keep the feet on the ground about the win tonight too. The Kerry lads will tell us they won by a goal on aggregate! Laughing Laughing

I must go for a long slow walk. You'd never know I might meet a few lads wearing Kerry ganseys with 'go brónach' faces on them.
What a bating we gave em. MOTM Alan O Connell was the correct pick, but captain Gillesbie and Hayes close behind. Kearney an unsung hero once more and what a team worker the Kinsale man is. He left a few lumps on the Kerry lads he accidentally bumped into as well.

Well that made for a very pleasant evenings viewing.
Credit to the management and players - they've obviously learnt from the kerry game in particular and worked on things like the kickouts, tightening up at the back and freeing up the space in the forwards. The wing backs look impressive to me, bombing forward at every opportunity.

They were also physical. They brought on a fella in the second half, number 19 I think, McCarthy. First thing he did was pole-ax a Kerry forward running at pace into him. He looks to be an enforcer, a dog. Exactly what Cork footballers need.

Anyway, he's only one. Drive on now and go at Derry, who's to say that Cork can't go on further.

Massive well done to all involved. Really well organised, lads emerging with ball they had no right to win, team holding shape throughout, well prepared on kick outs, using the width of the pitch, finding the shooters when attacking and hunting for goals when they were on. Thank god for the change in structure to this championship because a couple of years ago that game in Tralee would've been it and we could only lament another years worth of players offering little to contribute to closing the gap down the line.

Colm Gillespie would've been my pick but plenty to choose from. The spine of the defence was teak tough when required tonight but its rare to see a Kerry forward line with such a dearth of skill or pace. The bench have also contributed well in the last two games. Derry were apparently the better team against Tyrone in the final up there so they will be a tougher test one would imagine, but Cork's confidence should be soaring now and rightfully so.

That was a serious performance of grit and intelligence. I wonder did the cork management team engage in some rope a dope in Tralee a few weeks back? They certainly learned a hell of a lot from it and that is a credit to them……first cork team in a while with a kickout strategy!!
Players were a credit to their clubs and the work rate as superb, gearoid kearney from kinsale was superb, tackled physically all game and was excellent on the ball….loads of others and a tonic for cork football

It's Derry on Sat 11th. Probably in Portlaoise but AFAIK that's not fixed yet.
Derry scored 16 points v Tyrone but conceded 4-8 with the last clinching goal coming in extra time.
They appear to be big lads as do Tyrone but our lads aren't small either with lots of pace.
People are saying Derry were better than Tyrone and hard to argue with that except for leaking 4 goals they scored more often than Tyrone.
First time in my life I saw a Cork football team playing modern football. Huge emphasis on defence and breaking at speed with lots of players available to take a lightning fast hand pass on the run. Their ball retention was superb too in most cases as for young boys they played like adults.
Great credit is due to Michael O Brien and his coaching team.
There is no apparent explanation for their dismal performance in Tralee on the 12th of May, where the lost 1-16 to 0-5 other than stage fright coupled with fact finding as to players best positions and a huge improvement in the kick out strategy.
Josh Woods restarted 13 times last night , went long 4 times and lost 2 of those. All the others were short or nearly short and many scores resulted in these possessions.
Alan O Donovan has the unenviable distinction of shooting Cork's only wide last night but he had a big part to play in Haye's 1st goal.
I have often been accused of bashing Referees but in this case the reverse as Niall Quinn of Clare was excellent as were his linesmen who spotted Darragh O Connor's sneaky dig on Gillesbie. He also did our game with Tipp so let's hope he gets the next game v Derry also. Laughing

Last night for me was more than just giving Kerry a bateing in a football game. It was more the fact that we have a team and management who can play football for the modern age, fast paced, long distance point shooting, kickouts strategy etc. All the things that have sadly been missing in Cork football for 10 years. And a management team who have learnt and adapted.

Also, a thought struck me as I watched - maybe Rebel Óg is working?

Had the same thought Tippex. I was thinking maybe rebel og is finally beginning to work. Was hoping for some results sooner but that's just impatience on my behalf.

I would say our underage successes over the last 4 years would match any county considering it’s a dual one.
2019 - u21 finalists hurling, minor football all Ireland d winners, u20 football all Ireland and Munster winners
2020- u20 all Ireland and munster winners hurling
2021- all Ireland winners u20 hurling, all Ireland winners minor hurling winners, munster football champions u 20 and minor
2022- minor munster football champions

That’s a fair return imo and is a huge improvement on the barren years of the late noughties and 2010s where we had to be content with the odd u21 football result.
Our issues at senior level are a failure to utilise properly the talent available and in football the total failure in conditioning our teams to the highest level and of course tactics

Should be able to go on the way home from Antrim.
Will they sell tickets at the gate?

Looks like Tim O Brien has a serious injury but Kieran McCarthy was excellent as a replacement v Kerry. Certainly doesn't weaken the team IMHO.
Colm Clifford Eire Og is the only addition but he was an unused sub in Tralee.
Here's wishing our young men the best of luck.

Can't see us winning this, totally different type of game to the Munster final. Derry are as negative as they get, Cork have no space while in the ball and then they'll cough it up

7 down, playing with a wind and kicking frees and sidelines backwards over end over again. Why?
