Re: Cork Minor Hurling
Cork play Tipperary this Thursday night in Semple Stadium at 7 o clock in the first round of the round Robin. Then they host Limerick a week later. Then away to Waterford on April 24th with Clare at home on May 9th.
John Meyler is in charge. From what I'm seeing over along, they not too enamoured by him and his selection policy. John is old school. Tipp will always be good at this age group. Toughest game to start really.
Selectors are Seánie McGrath (Glen Rovers), Vincent Hurley (Courcey Rovers), Mick Mulcahy (Lisgoold), Pádraig O’Sullivan (Brian Dillons) and Peter Sykes (Ballyhooly).
Cormac Deane at CF is the son of Joe while wing-forward Luke Murphy's father Dan captained Cork to win the All-Ireland U21 title in 1997 and 1998.
CORK (Munster MHC v Tipperary): Josh Goulding (Glen Rovers); Keenan Harrington (Ballinhassig), Cian Denis O’Connor (Millstreet), Liam Kelleher (Douglas, captain); Kevin Beechinor (Éire Óg), Conor Noonan (Kanturk), Dean Cosgrave (Courcey Rovers); Oisín O’Connell (Carrigaline), Jack Hegarty (Ballinora); Michael Brosnan (Glen Rovers), Mark O’Brien (Douglas), Luke Murphy (Barryroe); Adam Lee (Cloyne), Joe Twohig (Valley Rovers), Cormac Deane (Killeagh).
Subs: Adam Lee (Carrigtwohill), Rian O’Riordan (Blackrock), David Enright (Inniscarra), John Murphy (Mallow), Cathal Lowney (Tracton), Jack O’Brien (Douglas), Leo Hennessy (Ballymartle), Peter Barrett (Midleton), Fionn Lardner (Fermoy).

Looks like I was posting in the wrong thread all along, apologies
Anyway, Tipp were definitely better. Cork need to gain more possession of they're gonna start winning matches at this level.
Fella on Proc saying 4 qualify from Munster, not sure how that happens or works but definitely gives em a chance. But they need to tidy up a few things and learn from tonight's short comings

Re: Cork Minor Hurling
Firstly we must remember that the minors are still only young ladeens and its important that we can give them every chance possible to develop their skill set - I'm sure they are down today, but this is a learning curve for them all.
My only gripe is how in the name of good God did Meyler get this gig. Hasn't he had enough chances already and from what I saw last night the skill set was very poor. Is there anybody in Cork teaching them how to catch a f.ing ball over their heads - And that goes for the seniors also. We won (and I maybe wrong in this) one ruck all evening.
I don't know enough about the ins and outs of Rebel Og, but is it working I wonder ? This team have been together for two years now, but it didn't seem that way last night.
Going back to my gripe on the Manager, haven't we anyone newer and younger than this - The CCB made a complete balls of the Jamie Wall non appointment a few years and they should be going down on their bended knees and begging him to come back into the fold - Sean og is another example + I'm sure there many more young coaches who would love to be given an opportunity to coach Cork Teams, but having a manager who already has had a go (and not being successful), is certainly not the way forward imo.

11 points to 6 points up at HT. They should be further ahead so that makes me uneasy. They seem to have plenty possession, play lots of handpasses and short stick passes but don't have enough to show for it

My stream went for the last 25 or so minutes. Looked like they weathered a late Limerick comeback to score 1-1 late on.
A win is a win and they back in the game now. Tipperary beat Waterford by 4 points so they top the group and are through already.

Much change from the last day? A win here would set them up for a crack at qualifying for a Munster final. Waterford aren't bad though. As our seniors found out to their cost

2-8 to 0-7 ahead at HT. Better team but Waterford have taken over in the 10 mins up to HT, scoring 0-3 without reply, which is a concern.
Lee at corner forward looks very dangerous.
That big lad at Full Forward, Twihig, wont do IMO. Doesn't have enough hurling and is inside in the squre for every high ball in

Rather low scoring for a hurling game. How is the weather there? Is there rain? If This game follows the trend of others, Myeler will make a substitution at half time in the forward line.

In fairness they emptied the bench once they got the 3rd goal., which showed them down a bit. Final score 3-18 to 0-12
It was an impressive performance overall. Got the job done with plenty of good hurling. I would suggest they have improved with the games. No 2 Ó Connor, no 3 Ó Riordan, no 6 Noonan, Mark O'Brien was very dangerous at centre forward (eventhough he should have gotten a red after 40 mins for pulling back across the WD legs), both half forwards and Lee at no 13 impressed me.
The ground was very slippy alright with players slipping but didn't appear to be raining or windy
Clare in 2 weeks and a win would probably put them into a Munster final

Good without being a great performance
Firstly, they have improved from the Tipp game, so fair play for that - Hats off to the Munster Council for re-structuring the Championship to give more game time to all the county's young lads.
From a Cork perspective, (and maybe I'm wrong), but our ability still to catch a ball over our heads seems to be alien to most Cork set ups - And another bug bear of mine is the ability to win dirty ball - Here again this evening, I felt that our players wanted the easy ball and not to get their hands dirty when rucks happened - Seems to be prevalent in Cork Hurling for the last 15/20 years or so

Re: Cork Minor Hurling
Great Post JBM1. I see great work being done by Gdas but I often wonder what goes on at club coaching. Coaching at juvenile level in clubs must and should be about the development of the players and not about winning. Winning comes with proper development and this is a process. I watch juveniles training and very seldom will you see a catching drill, a blo king and hooking drilll, a drill to show kids how to win a ruck ball. These are time consuming drills, and are very seldom practised. These skills are a rare sight in Cork inter county teams. Coaching the coaches should be a priority in Cork hurling as I feel the skills I mentioned are very neglected. Great victory last night by our minors, well done to all involved.
