However, (and here is the pessimist coming through in me), it's no good if we don't deliver in Thurles on Sunday, but what better place to do it in.
That first half performance was as a good as any I've from a Cork Team for a long long time. Again though, we gave two dreadful goals away from this tippy tappy stuff - It nearly cost us the game.
Hurling is a simple game - No need to complicate it

There needs to be a short outlet if we are struggling to win puck-outs further out the pitch. Hitting the ball long for each puck-out doesn't work either for 70 plus minutes.
Agree but after so long implementing a short puck out strategy it's mind boggling the decisions our GK made yesterday when executing it... We still need the short puck out but even after all this time they really need to work on it
I suspect you have to mix it up and the short puck out becomes necessary when your opponents set up deeper to counter your long ones. The threat of short ones pulls your opponents towards your half thus creating the space for the long ones. It's classic chicken and egg scenario. Collin's decision to go short was likely based on the picture he saw in our half forward line and executed the short puck perfectly but Donoghue's decision to go across Hegarty after catching with loads of space to his left, was the issue. There's huge confusion through all levels in GAA between decision making and execution.
I've always believed that this is one of the most important things to convey when coaching young players.

It was on Saturday night on the Saturday Game. It's on RTE player. I wouldn't bother. The analysis was shite. Anthony Daly being a parody of Anthony Daly.bittergaaman wrote:Why wasn't the game on The Sunday Game tonight?

One other issue is that sometimes you need to give the lads up the pitch a bit of a breather. They can't run non-stop creating space for every puck-out for 70 plus minutes.

Had a look at Limerick second goal. Camera behind the goal showed as Collins readied to puck out there were 6 Limerick players versus one Cork player between the two 45s.

Hopefully last Saturday night now it's out of the system, need to start getting the head right for Tipperary. In many ways, we're in exactly the same position now as this time last week.

Got sent this today. Very well written. It just makes you pine more for a time when we took it for granted that we were.serious contenders every year in both codes.

As expected I suppose.
Massive 3 days for our intercounty teams, will know a lot more about where we stand by Sunday night, let's do it

Re: Cork Senior Hurling 2024
No surprises with the team selection, was never going to change a winning team.
Apparently Damien Cahalane and Brian Roche both pulled hamstrings so are out. Conor Cahalane comes in and Ciaran Joyce returns.
Tipp will hit us hard and early. I expect them to run at our half back line because if Rob has a weakness it's that sometimes as a big gangly man he can be caught a bit static, once he's going he's a lot faster then you'd think but it takes him a while to get going from zero.
Mark my words they are going to try run down the middle so our defence needs to close in fast and as a block.
The Tipp plan will be to blitz us with early goals. If we can survive this early onslaught and aren't lethargic from the efforts of last Saturday we will see it out.
Hopefully Clare win the first game as a Waterford victory would take the wind out of our sails before we even get started.

Im always wary playing Tipperary, very good hurlers and im afraid of the Liam Cahill factor, he has it over us down through the years, has he ever lost to Cork as manager?
AS usual, we're jekyll and hyde so we just dont know what to predict today, if its the Cork from the Waterford game then its curtains but if its Cork from last week, then we're in with a right chance.
This isnt the walkover some people are predicting, championship is all over the place this year and someone is going to lose out

Not at the same heights as last week. As I suspected Tipperary up for this and hurling well
Is take O'Leary off at HT. He's a weak link
That Connolly goal gives us a huge fill up.
Drive it on now sevond half

Re: Cork Senior Hurling 2024
Ya. Dalton plus Hayes in the forwards not in it either.
We're probably the better team, could be further ahead.
Our scoring rate is on track so as long as we keep tipping away, add at least a goal, we've got a chance.
We're not winning anything off the Tipperary puckouts

All over now, Tipperary have fallen away
In fairness, NOL has really stepped up second half. Luke Meade has been excellent as well
I'll enjoy the last 15 minutes or so

They're getting quite frightened on the Clare forum and look upon Cork as a dangerous team!
One poster postulates that if Waterford and Limerick draw and Clare beat Tipperary, Cork will be out.
Another confirms this and says, "Be in Limerick's interest to engineer it too, if they could."
However, I don't think Limerick are frightened of Cork.

So If Waterford beat Limerick and Clare beat Tipp, that knocks out Limerick? I think! Ultimately that's what everyone wants I think

Such a pity we lost the first two games. If we had the right 15 in the pitch and no red cards we could be looking forward to a Munster final. They blew Tipp away in the second half. Tipp gave up but it was great to see them not taking the foot off the gas as was a trait for Cork for last few years. Well done all.

That was just the tonic. Not often we dish out a hammering to Tipperary in Semple so we'll enjoy that.
Assuming a crazy set of draws and results, we're through out of Munster. But no munster final.
I think we've unlocked something. We've got a little bit of everything now - power, pace, aggression, speed, physicality, big panel, scoring forwards, a goal machine, fitness, adaptability, a good spine to the team etc etc. Even showing a new found cuteness.
Plus the buzz with the fans is back, never underestimate the hunger we all in the county have for our hurlers, the red jersey and the conversation will be more prominent on the streets now, we have a team to latch onto.
Good times and no team in Ireland will fancy playing us

Years, 20 years of pain has me not getting to optimistic but it's hard to argue with that. A decision here or there was the difference between us and Clare. Not to mention kamikaze short puck malfunctions.
So all in all. Looking at things for the coming years, this year, bar the Waterford performance, has us finally on what appears to be the right track

Great Post as usual Tipp. It's just reward for everyone after our first two games with all the controversy over decisions not going our way. Fabulous hurling over the last two weekends has us dreaming and maybe that all Ireland medal could finally make its way northside.
Up the rebels.
